Passive Packaging (Systems) Engineer

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Packaging Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) is very much desired.

• 2 – 3 years of experience in a product development environment. Experience developing effective products for both low-volume, high-mix, and high-volume production is required.
• Understanding of the Passive Shipper Industry and applications used in prototype design. Experience in Thermal Packaging for Supply Chain Industry will be an added advantage.
• Highly creative individual with the ability to develop innovative packaging solutions utilizing chipboard, corrugated, plastics, PVC, styrene, tapes, and poly bags, as well as present other new materials and processes for consideration by management.
• Knowledge of package manufacturing processes and capable of generating detailed packaging specs. Must have experience re-thinking current packaging designs with new, innovative visions.
• Understanding of Pharmaceutical industry Qualification Process [Design Qualification (DQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ)] is beneficial.

• Taking input from sales & customers, design Passive Thermal Solutions to meet customer requirements. Take designs from conceptual stage to production release. Work closely with Engineering and production teams.
• Develop internal systems to drive time-to-market reductions for custom product development.
• Support Sales through Total Solution Comparative Cost Analysis as a means to influence customers. Takes into account product acquisition cost, shipment cost, and disposal or repositioning cost to compare against the competition.
• Support Engineering and Procurement in other packaging needs.

• Creates designs, drawings and prototype samples utilizing thermal packaging simulation tools.
• Translate business needs into packaging specifications.
• Acts as a supportive interface between sales, customer service, and production.
• Participate in cross-functional product development teams.
• Satisfy customers’ as well as Organization packaging needs by designing functional corrugated, protective foam and other types of packaging; and incorporate other materials as relevant and necessary.
• Utilize various Thermal Modelling tools like Thermal 3D, SmartCAE, CELCIUS, etc. as well as Acrobat, Excel, Word, and other programs as needed.
• Expert Understanding of Materials/Thermodynamics.
• Knowledge of Quality tools such as DFMA and FMEA.
• Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Must possess analytical thinking and reasoning skills.
• Must be thorough and exercise attention to detail.
• Must have the ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines such as Product Design, Product Testing, Manufacturing and Production, Quality, and Procurement.
• Must be able to set and maintain schedules.
